Hi, I'm a latecomer to this discussion, but my '89 Montauk 17 is still powered by its original '89 Johnson 90 VRO. This has to be the best combination ever made. With a 13d x 19p I get 40.7 mph at around 5100 rpm. It gulps the fuel, but I just redid the entire engine and lower unit...the $2,000 it cost more than offsets a new purchase even if I get only a few more years. One key is to sandblast and powdercoat the steering ring...good luck with the new stuff...new don't always mean better. View Article Comment

shkooyeil, actually the Outrage 25' itself was never called a V-25 in the catalogs. According to all the Boston Whaler catalogs, it has always been listed as an Outrage 25'. However, I do see on the photo above that this Outrage 24' model has a name on the side of Outrage V-25. View Whaler Models Comment

new to this forum and must say I am overwhelmed by all the info available here. I will certainly support this site. Joe Kriz must be some sort of Whaler Folk Hero but there are so many others that are giving good info as well. My thanks to all of you rwaddell View Custom Page Comment

Lovely. I just bought my own Outrage 20. Is that seat covers that I can see? Do you have the Springfield seats? If yes those look like after market covers.. Where did you get them? View Whaler Models Comment

I bought it from a woman on Ebay. They will make it any size you wish. Mine is 6' x 6'. Had it made tall as I stand 6'3". I can stand upright and walk bow to stern without ducking. View Project Album Comment

Any other updates? I'm at about the same stage with mine as well. I haven't tried using any chemicals to get the bottom paint off. The most effective method has been using a strong pressure washer then a sharp scraper. For the very stubborn paint, a belt sander and palm sander finish the job. My hull is heavily blistered and cracked in areas and am finding it necessary to take it down to bare glass. View Project Album Comment

looks to me to be one set of long chains to attach aft of the joint of the swing tongue. in case of failure of the joint. makes senses, but i would probably zip tie the chain up to prevent excess sagging. i'd probably trip on it . haha. if only i had a two car garage i could talk my wife into not parking her car in there. oh well. looks just like mine, also 1969, except I have the canvas which lays in front of the windshield. I love this boat, have a Honda 44 four stroke. Wonderful for day trips, fishing, or overnight even. Love the hatches on the front. Barcley, new member. View Whaler Models Comment

Great job Phil! The second set of chains to the right in the above picture, are they simply installed in case something happens to the swing joint? Seems beefy enough on its own, but I guess it can't hurt to have them. View Project Album Comment

Very impressive! All systems very well thought out, much labor and time spent on your boat, it is inspiring to see someone restore a whaler so expertly. View Project Album Comment
