I have the hole in my bow rail for the pennant staff and I found one that fits, but what it the best way to secure it?

Is there a hole to put a screw to act as a clamp on the staff? If not, would you be able to drill a hole and tap it? Then you could install something like this: http://www.microfasteners.com/images/...L-NTWB.gif

The joint on the rail seems to be tapped for a set screw but i'm not sure what size? I have #10 SS and that's too small. I will try a #12 but was thinking someone out there might know.

Rail fittings normally have a 1/4-28 set screw which if fine thread as opposed to the coarser 1/4-20 thread.

Was yours fine threaded or coarse?
