Hello, I have a 2008 150 sport. I want to install a Racor Fuel/Water Separator, but am unsure of where to put it. The most logical would be on the transom below the motor, but then the bulb would be "pushing" fuel into the separator. Would this be okay? Any ideas?
Your primer bulb is always "pushing" fuel into the motor. It's not really pushing, it is simply filling the fuel lines via suction. Yamaha for years has recommended the arrow on the primer bulb point straight up...now THAT would be pushing!
You'll be fine, but be sure to mount the Racor in between the tank and the bulb, so the bulb sees good, clean fuel...
The primer bulb in my Outrage is between the tank and the filter/separator and it works fine. I've read the preferences of some to have it between the filter and the motor and some between the tank and the filter but I've never read any overwhelming reason why one way is better than the other.
As fas as the orientation of the primer bulb itself, they simply work better and more reliably if mounted somewhat vertically with the flow arrow upward. Has to do with the check valve.
