I have a 24 gallon pate fiberglass tank on a 17 montauk (actaully my dads). Owned the tank since 1990, no problems...I am hearing too many horror story's about the tank resin breaking down. I live in CA and use only Chevron gas. I have not seen any signs that say this gas may contain ethanol on the pumps. Should I be looking to replace it? I add all the recommend additives to prevent the ethanol gas issues. I use the Starbrite gas treatment additive along with ring free by yamaha and fuel stabalizer and conditioner.

If there is no ethanol blended fuel, you are okay.

I would be ready with a new tank. It is only a matter of time before the exemptions to blended gasoline expire.

Additives will not inhibit ethanol's interaction with the fiberglass resin.

I'm in the same situation up in Nor Cal, just picked up a Montauk with a Pate tank, and I'm not taking any chances. Going to just run the 6 gallon Moeller tank until I pick up something bigger (I like the idea of dual 12-gallon Moellers).

I replaced my f/g tank today. It was a mess clogging the filter and line.

Replace any fiberglass tank if you use any ethanol fuels...
