I have a few questions regarding the Super Sport railing on the 13'. I received the railing in pieces when I bought the boat and I think I'm missing a couple of pieces. There are three upright rails on each side that anchor to the gunnel. My question is the middle upright rail, what is on the bottom of the rail? There is a loop that slides on the rail and anchors in the middle of the rail to the gunnel, but I have no idea what goes on the bottom of this rail. Any help would be appreciated.

When in doubt, take a look through the members personal pages.

There are quite a few 13' Super Sport models shown there.
Here is one that may be helpful.

Funny, I see the fittings in the bottom of the railing.

The bow shot shows a nice photo of that piece and they are the same as the other uprights.

Are any of these similar to what you are looking for?

The second vertical railing from the front doesn't show any horizontal "tabs" to insert screws into.

A memeber sent me some pics of his Super Sport and in the picture it clearly shows the vertical railing screwed to the gunnel, no stanchion. This would validate the opposing holes at the bottom of the railing.

I will send you a pic Joe.

Wow! All of this to find out a simple screw is all that secures the bottom of the railing!

That doesn't look right to me.
The front upright and the rear upright both have a fitting in the bottom of the rail as you can see in the first link I gave above.

This photo just doesn't look like it was supposed to be this way but I haven't looked that closely at a Super Sport model before.

This is the photo that Harley sent me and it does show a standoff but not a rail base fitting.
Again, I do not believe this to be correct.

HarleyFXDL had sent me a PM about rails on a 13 footer and I mentioned that when we were serching around for rails, that I thought the super sport rails looked nicer than the regular 13 rails.
I was thinking something like this looked good.

Harley,

You might also look at the wood locating diagram for these 13' models.

From what I see, there is NO wood when screwing this in as shown.
The wood is on the bottom and the screws should go down and into the wood.

arthureld,
Every base of the railing you show above has a fitting like it should have.

It really isn't that difficult. All the supports on the gunuells are the same. I don't get it.

The pic is from a guy who has an original super sport. If anything has been changed I do not know. But there is an indentations at the bottom where the screw would go which would indicate this might have been the intended purpose. None of the other vertical railings have the opposing holes with indentations and the bottom stanchion would not be able to slide inside the down tube because of the indentations. If you look where the vertical tube ends, according to the wood plan, there would be no wood to anchor a stanchion into. The wood should be where the screw is going into. It is not my purpose to confuse anyone but to properly install the railing and to help anyone else who might encounter the same problem.
