I'm still kicking myself. I finally after a long winter got my '83 Outrage 18 in the water only to forget to take out the sump plug. I don't use a bilge pump and am o.k. with standing water in the sump...messy, but not a big deal. Well it rained that night and you get the picture. My boat is listing about 1-2 inches on the waterline to the starboard aft side. Is there anything I can do short of opening up the well, removing foam, and then reglassing(!!!)...since the depth of the hull under the stern well isn't that deep, is installing a beckson plate in that corner of the well to open the area up on a dry, sunny day to dry it out an option? Any advice? Help!!

Hi, bail out all the water and open the deck plate for the tank in the stern and use a towl to get any remaining water out. leave the plate open so it will dry out and see what happens.

I'm not sure I fully understand what you're saying but, the sump and tank cavity is sealed in glass and gel coated. I don't think you need to cut open your boat. While underway, pull the plug in the sump and the boat will drain. I would open all the deck plates and let the tank cavity air out. It is supposed to be very warm (80's) this weekend,

I left my plug in after hauling it out last summer and we got a 4 inch thunderstorm, filled the entire boat. The water level was up to the splashwell (6 inches +).
It looked like a bathtub.

Just pull the plug and when stored, pull the deck plates to help it evaporate.

...put the plug in the sump and the boat will drain.

Uh, no that's not quite right. In fact, it is completely wrong. PULL the plug OUT of the sump and the boat will drain.

I think that is good advice for rhassel. Pull the plug. My reading of his post is that he put the boat in the water and it rained during the night and it filled with some water.

The solution is to pull the drain plug and let the water drain out.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I normally keep the plug out so I don't need a bilge pump. Water sloshes around in the sump but that's ok. I screwed up by leaving the plug IN (without a bilge pump) and the boat filled with rain water. I had a few inches of rain sloshing around on deck in that corner of the boat. I pumped it out but I fear that water got past the tank cavity and into the rear well area-specifically the corner where the boat is now listing.

Can water get under the well? Or did it collect around the tank cavity where that Beckson plate is?

to clarify, I think water may have gotten UNDER the well at the stern of the boat. I realize water IN the well would drain with the three plugs out.

I meant "PULL" the plug. my mistake. Thank you Tom for correcting my oversight. There is no way for the water to get past the tank bulkhead. I have a 18' Outrage in my garage with the tank out as we speak. If you look on my project page, you will see pics of the boat without the deck and tank.
