Just purchased my first boat - a 1989 Newport. A nice, sweet riding little boat.
The boat came with no cleats, so I am at a loss on where to tie the spring lines on the boat.
Can I just install a cleat anywhere? Or can I tie the lines to the front rail?
The Newport model is different than most Whalers in that is has a separate deck molding. It would be easy enough to bolt a spring line cleat whoever you wanted it to the side deck.
You can also secure an aft-leading spring line to the bow aft most bow rail stanchion. That work's very well especially if you use mooring lines with an eye splice in one end; you just hitch the eye to the rail.
