Pre Whaler? What markings makes you believe it's a Whaler?
Whaler went into production in 1958. Pre Whaler would be 1957 or earlier. Anything before 58 sounds like something Dick Fischer would have made himself as a test of the unsinkable concept.
I don't believe the Squall showed up until the late sixties. What are it's dimensions?
Photo's would be helpful.

Not sure, but I think the Squall was in production before Whaler bought it. The Hull tag read SQUALL manufactured by the Chestnut Hill Boat Co. 208 Canton, Ma. The hull # was unreadable. A thread on CW indicated these boats where made before BW got involved.

Mike is correct. The Squall was originally designed and built by The Chestnut Hill Boat Co. near Boston in the early 1960s.
Whaler bought the mold from Chestnut Hill in 1964 and started producing the Squall as a Whaler, with its Unibond constructed hull, for the 1965 model year.

Tom,
Wow, Dick Fischer was buying up the competition...
How long was the production run for the Squall once Whaler bought the rights to it? 1965 through ????

myakka,
What year is your Non-Whaler made Squall?
The Whaler made 9' Squall was from 1965-1984 however not all of those years are they shown or listed in the catalogs.

The age is unknown at this time. I don't believe it has ever been registered. The previous owner hasn't been able to produce any paperwork(they are in the middle of moving). the boat has been under his house for close to 20 years.

More info...
The boat came as a tender to a Huckins Yatch purchased (used) in 1971. In the late 80's it was given as a gift to the (now) previous owner with no paperwork. So there we have it. No age. No hull number.
In a strange turn of events I've found out this is not the only boat we (Me and the previous owner) have in common. I bought a beat up Pacemaker( in Massachusetts) in my early twenties and renovated it. Come to find out, the previous owner of the Squall was also the original owner of my Pacemaker. Not Whaler related but interesting.

Mike,
How does someone stuff a small boat under a house and not do a thing with it for twenty years. Kind of sad, however I guess being out of the sun may have helped preserve it.
Interesting story about your Pacemaker... I would have played the reg #s in the lottery...
If you get a chance please post some photos.
All the best,
Norm

The houses down here aren't your normal beach cottages. Many of them are stilt houses gone wild. I have one example for you. 9000 sq ft living space 20000 sq ft suspended on 217cross tied concrete piles including the suspended pool. you could hide a 27' whaler under that house and forget about it

Looks like I'm in the market for new rudder hardware. Both pintles?(the two receiver s that the rudder attaches to)fell off after a couple of hours sailing. I ran up wind for a while and on the way back, about 300 yards from my canal, the lower bracket fell off. I got relative control of the rudder and made it back into my canal before the top bracket fell off. Not the best way to find out,but the Squall rows very well.
