I am preparing to put a new gel coat on my 1969 13'. My question is how smooth do I need to sand down the original. I've started with 60 grit and was planning on continuing to 120. Will this be enough or too much? Thanks.

Ive never dealt with gelcoat, but with paint, I sanded the surface upto 120, sprayed on the primer, and fine sanded the primer with 240, after a couple coats of primer and fine sanding, sprayed on the final coats, and wet sanded that with 800 grit and up.. Hope it helps.
