Ok I have what we are calling a FRANKENWHALER. It started life in 1966 as a Currituck. I think with all the modifications it is now closer to a Montauk in appearance. We have been working on bringing her back to life and are just about to finish paint her. I have a question on where is the waterline on these boats. She is going to live in a slip and we are going to use VC17 on the bottom. The transom is easy, I think, 1” above the corner. Where would the waterline be, at rest, compared to the bow eye? One option is to launch the boat and let it sit for a week then pull it and mark the scum line. I really don't want to do that.
load the boat with fuel and 2 people and some gear and have another person mark a few spots all the way around the boat with a sharpie jus above the water line , pull the boat out and tape the line and paint, no need to let a scum line build up that just makes a mess when you have to paint it

While you may already gotten this. Let me clarify what others are saying.
Every hull is slightly diiferent and using a measurement will be very imprecise.
Some owners prefer a high line (fully loaded), while others like a low line (light while moored).
Splashing the boat is the quick and accurate way to getting the waterline.
