Going to have to replace the wood in the fiberglass on these. Has anyone attempted this before? Any tips, sugestions greatly acknowleged. Boat is a 1990 outrage 19, same as the 18 footer.
I replaced the plywood backing of the caps on my 1989 Outrage 22 when I bought it a little over 4 years ago. It was a pretty good project. There was no particularly difficult work involved. Mostly, it was just time consuming.
Some of the harware had not been caulked to the gelcoat, allowing water into the plywood. The fiberglass laminate below the plywood held the water, causing the wood to deteriorate. When I reinstalled all the hardware I caulked everything- including all screws.
I used West System epoxy and finberglass mat, but I am sure standard fiberglass resin/hardener would do the job just fine. I think I used the epoxy because I was doing the work in the winter time and epoxy will kickoff easier than fiberglass resin/hardener in cool conditions.
