I just inherited my grandfathers 17. It is an 89. This boat has been used and abused my other family members and it has been left out in the weather for a long time. My family and I used it this past weekend and it is solid and runs like great. What I need help on is this, is this wood on the boat TEAK or is it some other kind of wood? Also can this wood be restored or should I just replace it. As you will see in the pics the vertical door is broken off and missing. The wood caulks that hold the cooler down are terrible looking. Any and all help would be great thanks. Also if any one knows how to fill holes that would be a big help to thanks.

Jay

Jay -
Photos are handled a bit differently on this forum than some others.

You can add photos to your personal page and insert the image into the post but you can't insert a photo to a post by itself.

An easy way is to add the photo to your personal page and then just ask members to look there.

I tried your link to the slideshow but it was very slow to load.

click on the photo in your computer but do not open it. a box will pop up and you should have a bar with a line to open using a different program. Use MICROSOFT OFFICE PICTURE MANAGER. Once open click on the top tab picture. The bollto option is to compress the photo. Compress it to a web page size.

Or email them to me and I can do it for you.

Thanks for the help. I compressed the files and they are now under my personal page.

There are lots of members project albums on this site.

On the left sidebar, click on "Members Project Albums".
Browse through the ones that meet your interest.

Here are just a couple.

Take a look in the downloads section for drawings of more parts including the Cooler Cleats.

What you have before you is a fantastic classic whaler which will become a work-in-progress, but the effort will be worth it when completed. A few years back we renovated ours from stem to stern, with the exception of the interior surface, which is next years project. See our personal page for some pictures of all phases. Good Luck and have a ball!
