I called Spectrum today to price gel coat and they wanted about $215 a gallon and almost $700 for five gallons. This seems kind of high. I haven't heard back from Minicraft yet.

Try Express Composites They are located in Minneapolis and are a family run concern. They sell 1 gallon for $55 and 5 gallons for $200 and while I'm not sure what shipping costs would be, I don't think it would come close to the difference in price.
The trade off would be the fact that Spectrum should have the correct color available and Express would have to mix it.
They are awaiting the arrival of their new gelcoat mixing machine (should be within the next week or so). As soon as it arrives I'm heading over there to have them match the grey for my Guardian.
I've purchased items from them on a few occasions now and find them to be great to deal with. Jim, the owner, does razz me about being a Whaler guy though.

I am spraying the entire boat so a good match would be fine. I will check them out.

Minicraft wants about $850 for five gallons. I think painting might be in my future instead of gelcoat.

I was hoping to get something as close as I can get to desert tan. I have seen five gallons for about 200 dollars in white.

I just ordered from Express Composites. The color labeled F100 was a very, very close match to the console on my 1974 montauk. The cost was about $255 shipped for five gallons. I will see how it looks when I spray it on, hopefully in a few weeks.

Are you planning to take pic's when you do the spraying? It'd be great to have a project page with the process, techniques, and tips you found helpful.

I will do that. I have it flipped over right now and I am sanding the bottom. I hope to be done in two weeks with the bottom, but the detailed work is slow going.
I have a color fan too and will ship it to someone if they want to see the colors they offer.
