I just ran across an older Whaler for sale. The owner has had it for 5 years and thinks it is a 1985 13.5. It's very interesting. It has a free-standing f/g molded center console with a large seat/storage molded forward. The driver has a bench seat.
The hull is extended on both sides of the outboard back from the transom about 12 inches. In the vertical, this extension stops near or at the waterline and serves as a step on each side of the o/b to help get on the boat from the water. I guess it extends the waterline, acts as a fixed elevator and adds a bit of flotation.
