Just picked up a 72' 17ft, was a definite fishing boat has a ss structure arround and above console seems solid but was wondering how it would handle inthe ocean. top heavy? wind? curious if anyone had experience with this type of rig? I do like the extra storage the bag under the top provides and the 10 plus rod holders will provide good storage for snapper pole nets and lax sticks.
There are not many 17' Boston whaler hulls with a T-top since attaching them is tricky and a bit tenuous given that there is no wood backing blocks in the floor to attach the legs.
Many knowledgeable members recommend not installing a t-top for the reason cited above.
While it may perform to your satisfaction, periodically check the mounting points to the floor and the console.
A T-Top on a 17' is good if you like sailing.
Turn off the engine, open a soda or other beverage, and email us from Hawaii or other far off location when you get there.
Have you ever put your hand out of the car window when traveling down the road?
Sure, we all have... Now try sticking an umbrella out the window and see what happens...... :-)
It certainly doesn't make for steering a straight course....
