I'm shopping for a 2001-2006 Sport 13 with a 40hp 4-stroke.
Pricing seems to swing by 2-3 thousand dollars from high to low.
My question is... "Is $5.5k a "must buy" price for an 2003 in excellent condition?"
Are there any reasons I should want to avoid the 2003 hull?

I recently sold a 2001 Sport 13 with a two stroke Mercury 40 and trailer for $4,000 to a close friend. All were in very good to excellent condition. When trying to price the boat, the local Boston Whaler dealer suggested a price no less than $5,000.

Thanks for the response.
Question... Are the hulls of the 2001 and 2003 identical? And do you think there is a $1,500 difference in the "value" of the two boats and outboards?

The four stroke engine is obviously worth more on a package that is two years newer. How much more, I do not know. You could check with a Mercury dealer. Also, does the boat have any accessories that would add to the value? Bimini top, seat cushions, etc. My boat did not come with any accessories other than a boarding ladder and coast guard package. Upkeep and condition mean alot as well. Mine had been bottom painted which is a negative for some people. Ultimately, it comes down to what a motivated seller will agree to with a willing buyer. Sometimes owners are not real motivated to close a deal unless it is at their price and neither are buyers usually motivated enough to pay asking price. If you are really interested in the boat after doing your homework and a satisfactory sea trial, make a reasonable offer and see what happens. Good luck.

Offer the guy $3,500 and see if he will bite. Times are very tough right now and if they are tough for the seller, he may take your offer.

"Offer the guy $3,500 and see if he will bite."

That's really sad. We all know that boat is worth more than that. I guess if you're the buyer, WOW what a deal!

I offered him $4,500.00 and he is holding tight at $5,500.00, (down from $7,300.00). I'm looking for a great deal, I don't "need" to rush and I think a newer Sport 130 in the same condition will pop-up for $5,500.00... So I'm passing on this one.
Thanks for all the comments.

That's a great deal no matter how much you pay for it. I shopped around for years and bought a 2001 like that with a Merc 40 Hp. I bid on several on Ebay and couldn't buy one for less than $8,500 in 2008. That boat could last you a lifetime. Figure the value of that boat over the next 20 years! Pretty cheap indeed and you'll likely sell it in 20 years for the same or more than you paid for it.

My $0.02, initial thought reading this prior to any replies was that's a very good price for that new of a Sport. Most 20-25 year old ones in nice condition with older trailer and older motor are easily selling between $3000 to $4000 and really nice ones for more. That is a great deal as was mentioned if you have your mind set on a 13' boat if it's in your price range.

What about this deal?

Unsinkable 1989 11'4' Boston Whaler, side console, 25hp Johnson just tuned up: new impeller, plugs, battery, etc. Electric start, starts right up. Includes full cover and galvanized trailer. Ready to go, needs nothing. $2700 obo.

He will take $2,300.00. The 11/4 is not a 13 but it would do okay as a tender for my MY.

Sure, it would be a good tender but you'd be limited with what you could do with it. A 13' with a 40hp has a ton of versatility. How big are you and how many people do you plan on carrying in it? How far do you plan on anchoring from shore in your MY?

I need to be able to carry a load of about 400 pounds not including the o/b and fuel. I don't enjoy using the inflatable I have now so I avoid using it. The 11/4 would be easier to "deal with" but I would be taking a chance that it might be too small to enjoy too. The 13 is a sure bet enjoyment wise but could be a pain to deal with... So, it's a coin flip.

where's The 11 located that seems like a great deal. I don't understand what the big difference between the 13 an 11 besides footage. I am in the same boat looking to replace my Zodiac and really can't get any bigger without getting another slip which isn't going to happen. my neighbor has a Zodiac rib with a 15 horse on it and explores a lot wanting me to bring my family in ours and i get my doors blown off by him and feel helpless. I just thought the Whaler would last better and be more fun.

For me... It's about having fun while using it for utility. I'm not 100% sure the 11 is enough boat for "fun" because it's freeboard is so low, but, the 13 is a lot harder to carry. I tow in open ocean but need to put "whatever" on board (rules) while in slip. I'll roll the dice on the best deal that pops up.

When I insured my boat motor and trailer they told me it was worth roughly $2000.00. A week later my wife and I pulled into a marina and a guy offered me $4000.00 for it, I said no he then said $4500.00 with the trailer. I have an '89 15' sport with a '92 50 Johnson on it. I don't think $5500.00 for a 130 is too much money. Also keep in mind that no matter what boat you get it will be two feet to short. I wouldn't go any smaller than a 130.

Well... I bought a 1989 Dauntless 13 today that needed to be pulled out of the weeds. It's a project boat. Needs a lot of cleaning, wax, new cushions, battery, carb rebuilding, motor service, trailer work and general odds and ends, etc.. I paid $3,700 for it. I'm hoping to keep the cost of repairs down to $1,200 doing most of the work myself.

Congrats !! Post some before and after pics. I have been looking at a fixer upper and sometimes you end up with more cash in it than a turn key boat. It's more fun than a Honey-Do.
