I personally don't care for the stern drive setup. My view on stern drives is it is a car engine adapted to marine use. An outboard engine was designed from the start, for marine use. Most if not all stern drive engines are cast iron, which is not salt water friendly. Most of the nightmares I've seen with boats involve sterndrives. Look the motor/outdrive over carefully before purchase.
