My BW has the dog run style steering and it jams up, pops out every now and then. My kids will be driving it soon so I want to convert it over to a modern steering cable for safty reasons. Are there any kits or set ups that can be purchased. any advice or or comments would be helpful. thanks

In most cases you have to use a bracket to offset the cable something like this.

and others have used something like this.

I chose to notch my hull and go a different route. At the time there was no whalercentral to give other options. I like the top option personally. It has fewer parts and easier to deal with. The picture was custom made with readily available pieces.

It took me awhile to figure out the link Turpin was trying to point to.

I finally figured it out and also had to add the WWW in front of the address.
It should work fine now.

If your cable steering pops out, you should replace the cable. It has probably stretched. If you want to replace it and not build your own parts, check TR Marine. They make kits to provide thru tube steering.
