I live in Spanish Fort, AL on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay. I need some minor fiberglass work to be done on my whaler. Any suggestions?

Geez not around our neck of the woods. I know of couple of places in Mobile but could not recommend them as I have never used them. There is a place on Old Shell right across the street from UMS Wright. Then there is Grady Marine On HWY 90. But like I said I have no experience with either. I just know they do that sort thing. Just curious what exactly is minor fiberglass work?

I have some small chips on the inside of the hull and one small chip underneath the hull, toward the transom....just comestic stuff. There is also a larger chip, about an inch long and half inch deep, above the water line. Pretty anal about it....just bought the boat a couple of months ago.

If it's just gel coat damage, that's pretty easy to fix. You could order the repair kit from Spectrum and get the exact color match. Then wet sand it with increasingly fine grit paper then buff it. I've filled probably 50 nicks, dings and screw holes on my old Outrage. Otherwise, I'm like the guy from Daphne, no experience with any of the shops around the area.

I have several friends in the area who speak very highly of Negus Marine in Mobile. They used to build boats but I bet the market has knocked that in the head. Meanwhile I know of two folks that use them often for service, etc. You might give them a call and ask.

The only person I would use is Howard Melech located on Pld Shell Rd across from UMS Wright Academy, 473-1636. He's busy, so make an appt, but he does great work. Dennis Craig

Fiber-plastics (or something like that) on Halls Mill Rd. does good work.
