I have a 1984 17' with a poorly constructed custom right console that I'm looking to replace with a center console and helm more similar to the original. I think I have the console picked out but am looking for a good helm seat. I like the utilitarian aspect of this one.

Any ideas where I can find something like this?
Thanks
Matt

I really like the design of that seat. Where did you find that picture?

Found that on an expired Ebay auction. I sent the owner an email but didn't hear back.

Are you accustomed to sitting and driving your 17? If I didn't have an original boat -I'd be looking for a leaning post. At 6'4" I find I never use the seat.

I do stand most of the time. But it's nice to have a place to sit (either direction) when stopped. And the passenger doesn't always want to stand. I figure that a bench such as this would offer good flexibility.
But I'm new to this and am very interested to learn from the experienced Whaler owners out there.

Looks like a useful solution to me. Tastefully done in my opinion.

No luck finding the simple bench, but this is close in an RPS style:

Or something like this from Taco marine following Michael's suggestion:

Now just need to do some checking on ideal dimensions taking into account the size of the reinforced plywood deck.
Thanks for the feedback.

That's a "Leaning Post" not to be confused with a Reversible Pilot Seat (RPS)...

Joe, check the top like to a RPS style. The bottom is the leaning post. Just throwing some options out there for discussion based on the feedback from Michael.
I'm leaning towards leaning post.

A few of my customers have installed either the Wise or Todd cooler seat in the Montauk hull with good success. The ability to flip the back of the seat and sit facing the motor is a great option for boats with limited space. The only problem with the swingback seats is that they sit so low that you can't see over the console. We have addressed this issue with this product:

In addition to converting the swingback seat into a leaning post, my brackets are a great use of space. You can mount rod holders on the sides as well as store a variety of gear underneath the cooler seat from life jackets to tackle boxes.

Matt, I did a quick search and found something similar on iboats:

Not quite as cool as the first pic, but a simple alternative.
