There is a product out there to adapt your 15" transom to 20" and have the new type of steering. It is made by Kentfab Engineering in Hanover, MA. Check the web site out.

It is very well thought out. Made of welded plate aluminum, it slips right in and bolts to the transom. Why butcher your transom?

I have seen a few of these on 13 foot Whalers and will eventually need one when the supply of 15" motors dries up. They say eventually they won't make 15" motors in the size we need. Almost all inflatables are 20" transoms now.

The web site has some good pictures of it. One bonus is you can convert to the new style steering system that the newer 13' has. With the cutout style transom of the older hulls the steering rod goes through the engine and the transom interferes with the movement of the rod. Now you can convert it. I know this will help many of you. Check it out.

The Transadaper from Kentfab has been around for awhile. What would be nice is to hear actual reports of someone using it?

It's something I'm potentially going to use when it comes time to repower my 13'. I've been looking at it for some time now, great product. The one major thing I like about raising the transom up an additional 5" is it will limit the amount of wash back one gets when coming off a plane to quickly.

Cliff
it should keep a lot of the water out of the splashwell.

I plan to use it as well once I get the 13 put back together and assuming the evinrude in my garage is toast.

Here is another alternative but may not be as heavy duty as the Kentfab version.

Chichester has the T&R Transom Elevator on his 13' model.

Here is a adapter plate that I had fabricated. My original 15" transom had been built up already, but was still not high enough to accept a 20" shaft length motor. Check my personal page.

Thanks,

Todd

The issue I have with the T&R Transom Elevator is that it doesn't completely cover the opening. that is what makes the Transadaper so nice it it really is like building up the transom without the trouble. Also it's removable so you can restore the boat or switch to a SS outboard without further mods.

Hmmm. Looks like it should accept a 20" to me.

With some work you can adapt the hull to 20" and keep the "original look" to the hull. If I was smart enough to do it anyone can.

I wonder how well this adaptor will accept one of the electric tilt products on the market??
