I am buying an 82 Outrage with some waves on one side of hull. Cosmetically this does not bother me but are there any structural issues that I should be concerned with? I am planning on stripping boat, new fuel cell, awlgrip, ect. I have seen this condition referred to in several posts but with no definative opinion on whether it's a big deal or not. Thanks.
The puckered hull sides are very common on Whalers from the early 1980s and especially the first Outrage 18s made in 1981 and 1982. Some were so bad, the hulls were replaced under warranty.
It is cosmetic, not structural. I would not worry about a hull that has now survived 28 years.
I have an 84 Outrage 18 - almost completely restored and hull has waves. Have an excellent glass gentlemen working on the boat and he has done several other Whalers over the years and tells me it's a trade mark on these older Whalers. Not to worry enjoy your Whaler
