Hello to all. My grandfather gave me a 19' Boston Whaleer about a year ago. i would like to start restoring it. I used a chart and was able to find that the production year is 1962 or 1963. The boat is in good condition. However he painted over the original teak and drilled a bunch of holes in it to make it a salmon fisher. I will post photos of it once I get more used to this site. i guess for now if anyone could point me in the direction of good resources to help a newbie take on a projecty this big that would be awesome. I would like to get the boat back to it's original state. Also from pictures I have seen I would guess it is a Monatuk........ Thank you so much.

Hi Nathan and Welcome to WhalerCentral.
We do need to see some photos so we can determine which model you have.
The Montauks 17' models and the other 19' models did not start until 1973 so you probably don't have one of these unless you have the year wrong.
Look through the Whaler Model Specifications and see if you recognize any of the boat models listed here:

Let us know what you find out.

Maybe I am wrong an the length. It looks most like a 16' Sakonnet. The year would be 1963 if I remember correctly.

Nathan,
You should have a Stencil number on the inside of the transom under where the engine is mounted.
Let us know what this Stencil number is and also look here.

Let us know what you find.

Stenciled Number 38307 indicates that the boat is a 16'-7" model made in 1968.

Pictures are up on my personal page. Still not 100% on what model it is. The blue paint is in really good condition minus where all the holes are that my Grandpa drilled in it. So any suggestions on where i should start? Also I think the motor is the one that came with it. It does not run but I found a guy that would work on a motor that old. Thanks again all.

Nathan - Think you need to set your personal page to ONLINE so we can see the link under your username.

That would be a Sakonnet model as shown in our Whaler Model Specifications seciton I already gave you the link to above in my first post.
And here is the specific link in the Whaler Model Specifications section that shows the Sakonnet models.
http://www.whalercentral.com/userphot...lbum_id=26
Your Sakonnet is missing the original wood Reversible Pilot Seat and replaced with a different kind of seat.
This is how the original seat looked like:

Actually I do have the seat yet. He kept it after adding the other captain's chain. However he painted that the same color as the console.
