I keep having the idea of a project to take a 20ft hull, and make it into a Super Sport Ltd.
What would be the Max HP on that hull?

Or would starting w/ a better hull / engine be smarter w/ more $ up front?? like this:

Or am i just crazy.
Had a 17 SS ltd and loved it, now it'd be a bit small.

I have a 1984 V20 with 175 etec Stormrider.
It is a great boat but I think it has a reputation for porposing more than the newer 20s and the 18s and 22s.
If you plan on spending a lot of time over 40 mph or offshore, you probably would be more comfortable with more V.
It works out great for me because I live on the Great South Bay and there are lots of shallows.
If I get rich some day, I'll probably move up to a classic 22
Good luck.

Tom... thanks for the good read.
From some of the pics, the hull does look wavy.
To make any of these a SS ltd, i'd have to gut the hull, and build from there. But if the hull is wet, then its no good.
That's why i also mentioned the other boat.
Sometimes its just better to pay a bit more up front... and in this case could be the difference between a ton of outer hull work, and none. Plus the newer Yammy may not need to be replaced so soon.
It'd be a losing propostion either way, having to spend $10k+ on custom glasswork to get what i want. But otherwise, there is no option to get way i want.

As i said, i'd be gutting whatever i bought, so a 22 would work too, but it would be as big as i'd go.
I'm in port washington, and would be in the sound, which isn't too bad most of the time.
Also be trailering to the south shore now and then.
The work to get the interior the way i want would cost the same for a 20 or 22.
I figured 10-12k on a new engine, and maybe 10k on glasswork.

Not sure how many hrs it would take to fabricate that SS ltd interior, but using marine grade plywood(or foam coring) glassed in should work fine.

Is the Outrage 20 a different hull? Steeper deadrise?

How about a 22 like either of these?

The newer 20 (I think 86 and up) has the same amount of V as the 80s 18s and 22s.
The older 20s have less deadrise. One thing the older 20s have that you might be interested to know is removable front storage compartment/seats. If you look at my personal pages you can see what I mean.
