Hi,
I'm Italian. Yesterday I leave a deposit for Boston Whaler 17. The seller said to me that the boat was of 1993 and the outboard 1988 Johnson 120 hp.
But today I have found your site, fortunatley and In my opinion the boat is of 1969!
The price is 3500 Euro. Is that too expensive?
I hope that you can help me to check the real year of this boat and outboard because I'm worried.
Excuse me for the bad english
Now I put the photos that I have found of the boat:

Look here, under the wood there are two step that I find only in '70 models like this: http://www.whalercentral.com/infusion...er_id=1693, is that correct?

Thank you so much

If you have the Hull Identification Number the last two digits should be the year of the boat.
The pictures are not very telling but I would guess the boat to be early 70's. I think it is a non smirked hull. The cover on the motor does not look like a 88 model either. It also looks like something more along the lines of a 70's model.

I agree with Bake - I would put the motor in the Late 70's ealy 80's - As for the boat tought to tell by the pics but definitely not a 1993 - That I am sure of.

I'm angry very angry...
I don't say what I can do now...
What's a fair price in your opinion for this boat and outboard? There isn't a console only a fuel tank of approximately 100 lt.

tell the seller it is not as advertised. Thought it may be a honest mistake ask for you money to be returned. very possible the seller thinks it is what he told you. did you check the hin numbers for the year model?

I agree with the estimations above. The boat, base don its interior color, was made between 1971 and 1975. The motor could well be a 1988 Johnson 120; that makes sense.
3500 Euro is about $5300 USD. In the US that might be close to a reasonable deal, but in my area I would pass on it based on the condition of the boat. In Italy, however, where Boston Whalers are more scarce, it might be worth a bit more. I honestly do not know the market for used boats in Italy.
Regardless of what year the boat is, its condition is its condition and that is apparent. If you have had a chance to inspect the boat personally, then you can see what you are getting. It's your decision.

Thanks so much friends!
I have found another whaler, that's originally a 1978.

The boat could have been the white color in the early 70's. The thing that makes me think the motor is older is the big emblem on the front of the cover. I have not seen one of those in quite a while.
I would not give a guess on what the boat is worth either. You Know the area and how difficult it may be to find a whaler. any number should have been on the right side looking at the rear of the boat up close to the top of the transom. I am not saying what the boat is worth or not worth. My comments are only to your question of the age of the boat and motor.

If the original interior color is blue, then the boat was made between 1961 and 1971.

That second listing does look like a 1978 and appears to be in far better condition. It is also a very desirable Montauk model with all its original equipment.
