Greetings,
I am new owner of 1988 Outrage 18. I named it Trinity (you know, the Matrix Trinity) I am thrilled and have looked at hundreds of your photos and read many articles, comments, etc. Thanks for sharing your experience and experise. In one of the photos, I noticed that the console was not mounted to the deck as usual but was raised off the deck 2" or so on wood rails. I measured my console to top of hand rail; it is 46" Any reason to make it 48"? I have to make the teak frame for the fire ext. and the sump cover so one more job is ok if there is any reason to do it. Steve

Welcome to WC,
Many folks find the console too low, especially if they are over 6 foot. For those folks raising the console on teak blocks gives them added height and still maintains the yacht look with all the wood. If you find the console too low, then raising it is an option.

The console on m 18 Outrage is raised 4" on teak blocking of my own design. I would not have it any other way, and it greatly improves the feel, comfort and safety of using the boat.

Finnegan,
That depends on the person using the boat. I tried to raise mine 2 inches when I replaced the console and did not feel comfortable with the visibility when seated.

Forgot to add, my RPS is raised 6". The original Whaler design is WAY too low in my opinion.

I think Larry also raised the RPS. You probably would not want to move one, and not the other- Hey, I never sit anyway, so as long as the wheel and controls are in a reasonable comfort zone, I am good, and the console height as is is just fine for me.

For refernece, in case anybody else is interested, here is the typical "block and beam" console riser detail I have designed, and use in all of my boats. It fits onto all of the original holes in the boat/gas tank cover floor:

Enlarging the photo full size helps to see it.
