I have been wondering for some time what these circle indentations are all over the deck of my Outrage. The reason I am asking (besides simple curiosity) is that one of them has cracked significantly and is rusting from underneath.

Any ideas?

What's up with the Philips head screwdriver marks?

Thanks.

They are on mine too, my guess is where the foam came out when they poured it and it expanded but I don't know for sure.

Alright;
These are what I will call medallion imprints.
They will be part of the decking molding process.
They also will indicate of a plywood backing that will lay underneath.
On your second photo;
I can see that in the past;
there was something fastened to the deck and through the medallion.
Of possible metal screw remnant that may still be embedded in there and having being "repaired" but still showing telltale signs of the metal corroding.

I guessing that at one time there was something like a T-Top mounted on the boat and the marks are where the supports were attcahed to the deck............Where are they located.............Are the located in the approximate same place on opposite sides of the deck?

I believe they are from the factory mold.

those are from the mold but I do not know why they are there. I kinda speculated it had something to do with getting the boat out of the mold. My 19 had the same thing it the floor. I filled mine to flush the floor.

I have them on my 1967 Nauset. Not exactly sure what their purpose was, but I do agree with Serge, the one that's rusty has a broken steel screw buried in it. Somebody (not Whaler) had sunk a screw down in there and part of it remained after it broke off. Hence the rust.

To stop the rust your going to have to play dentist. It's like a bad cavity in your hull. Find the piece and extract it, then carefully glass it back in. Obviously water is getting to the remains of the screw. Water is probably also finding it's way into the foam as well.

Thanks, guys, I really appreciate all of the info.

Norm, it's funny you should say that, because I am a dentist! Ha. Looks like I have some work to do at home. All of the imprints are cracked to some degree.

Bake, what did you use to make them flush?

I suspected that the "medallion imprints" had something to do with the molding process, but I wanted to make sure that the screw head marks were not indications of screws below deck.

I flushed mine during a project restore, along with a lot of other mods. I used fiberglass and 3m premium filler. I planed on having to put new nonskid over the entire deck anyway. I would think If your floor is in good shape you would be better to fill the cracks and just put a little gel coat in the divots.

I was just looking at the wood diagram for a 19 hull. those little strange circles are over the wood in the floor. I was supprised to see it but it is clear as day the circles are evenly spaced along the hidden wood.
Reading back up the topic I see that is what serge was saying I just did not know it was an exact footprint of the wood on the floor.

I just bought mine two weeks and also was wondering what they are from They still have the screws in them and there are six total that i can see. I believe something was mounted there at some time. I dont have the original console so im not sure whether it had something to do with the original mounting. Mines a '67.
