I couldn't pass up on the opportunity to start my BW Navy. I found this little boat 20 mins from my house. It is hard to tell, but the boat is fairly clean. There are a few questions though........there is a round plastic plate in the front well that looks to be riveted to the hull, what is it? There seems to be a hole in front of the norman pin where a bow light should be, is there supposed to be a light? If not, what covers this hole? where do the wires go? I have included pictures. From what I can tell from the HIN, the boat is the same year as my Outrage.

Kevin -

I would offer that round cover is the sprue hole (where they injected the foam). I think a prior owner did not like the rough gelcoat finish on the hole and covered it up.

She has dual rowing stations (bow and amidships) so it will be great as a punt.

No idea on the hole in the bow.

Nice find my friend!

Kevin,

Take a look at another members personal page that also owns a 9' tender.

I would say the hole is for a light.

Is that what it is Phil? It makes sense, it is the same thing on my Outrage.

Yes Joe the hole is for a light. I found the wire and it comes out from a small hole about a foot from the transom. I guess the hole in the front remains open? Is there supposed to be a grommet or something else covering it?

Now I have two whalers to work on!

I'm so jealous. That's a great find! The sprue hole cover is the same as the other member's. I've seen a couple of old 13's that had plugs in the bow which led me to believe that bow lights were an option. A couple of days ago eBay had an "Attwood Bow Light" that would work for you. It looks like a wine cork could fill the hole nicely in the meantime. Not that I would have one to donate or anything.

Kev,
What a great deal... Damn... she's so cute you just want to give her a squeeze. She's found a great home.

I took the little Whaler out today. I used my 1987 Evinrude 6hp and had my wife and 2 kids with me. There is a small creek near my house and we went all around the back areas. The boat rides and handles 100% better than the 10' Alum Jon I had. The 6 pushed the boat arond 6-8 mph and wouldn't get up on plane. The max for the boat is a 5hp, I think I might look to sell the 6 and get a 9.9 for a little more power.

just a cover plate that covers nothing, I removed mine and used faring compound to level out the area under it. also i'm installing a short piece of 1/2 in. poly tubing thru the drain hole, sealing it in with something (probably 5200)
