Removal of RPS rod blocks

Hi all: Am in the process of removing all the teak for stripping and re varnishing. I have removed the RPS seat back easy enough thanks to some previous threads but I can't figure out how to get the two small teak pieces off the SS swing rods.
Help please

It's a snug fit.
Tap them lightly with a block of wood evenly so you don't split them.

If you're talking about the blocks on the sides of the rps where the swing "rods" fit - there should be 4 bolts on each. You'll have to pull the fishing rod holders out to access the nuts on the inside. Those fishing rod tubes are fastened with either 1 or 2 wood screws though the bottom wood plug - you'll need a long phillips.

I'm not positive but I think he said he already had the back off. That to me would mean the blocks are still on the SS pivot rods but removed from the back...
but I could be wrong.

Could you elaborate on the taping. If I have the rods vertical, blocks are long ways horizontal--- Tap where?

Tap on the wood block with a block of wood or rubber mallet.
The ends of the pivot rods is a fairly tight fit into the wood mounting blocks.

Ok, I've got the stupids here. I don't understand where to tap on the wood block.
On one of the edges to try to slide it off the rods?
One the side of the block the rods are connected to?

Those two pieces should just pull off, nothing can be holding them, other than pressure from the two swing rods. Try squeezing the rods together, or pulling them apart, while pulling the block straight out and away from the rods, should pop right out into your hand.

Walter: Thanks a real bunch!!! That worked. I had envisioned that there were screws into the metal rods that slid on to the blocks. It just never occurred to me the blocks slid over the rods.
I was banging away where you said figuring the block was going to split when the first side popped of a tube. Ohhh, that's how they're put together.
Now I'm a happy varnisher
