Small holes in the bottom of my 13 ft whaler, how do I fix them?
I am a first time Whaler owner. I just bought a 1980 13 foot sport yesterday. I have some small holes in the bottom 1/2 " by 1/4 ". I apologize for this basic question, How do I go about fixing these holes? What materials should I use? How do I apply them? The boat is in great shape, How can I do these spot patches without completely redoing the bottom gel-coat.
This is a fantastic article written by Taylor Clark documenting a repair done properly (and impressively, as well) by him and resident prop guru Tom W. Clark. It's probably all you'll need.
Jerome,
are the holes thru the gelcoat, into the fiberglass or are they only gelcoat chips? When you say "some small holes" is that one or two, or a bunch of them?
If they are not thru the gelcoat and into the glass, then you can get a desert tan gelcoat patch kit from www.Spectrumcolor.com and follow the instructions.
Thank you Bo Neato:
What a great article, and Web-sight. I'm amazed at how much information is out there when you get pointed in the right direction.
Thank you Kamie:
There are three small holes and a six inch line of very tiny holes that penetrate beyond the gelcote into the fiberglass chop. lots of scrapes and superficial abrasions. There are also some bumpy spots that seem to be dripping a little water. I wish I knew how to post pictures so I can show you these holes. Thank you again for the link.
