i have a 1986 22 outrage i would like to install a 250hp yamaha 4 stroke. i would like to know if the extra weight will have any adverse effects. the boat was originaly powered by a 1990 200hp evinrude.

250 would be overpowered so you might want to check with your insurance company first.

Here is a current list of motors and their weight:

My choice would be the Evinrude 200hp at 427 pounds

The Yamaha 250 weighs in at a whopping 604 pounds...

I have a 1989 22 Outrage with a 225 Johnson/Suzuki 4 stroke. I had to add trim tabs because the added weight of the 4 stroke totally changed the way the boat sits in the water. It was very stern heavy. The trim tabs solved the problem. I don't miss the smoke, odor and noise of the old 2 smoker.

Dave,

How much more does the motor currnently on the boat weigh compared to the motor that formerly powered the boat?

Thank you,
Doug Vazquez

i have a 225 E-TEC which will push my 22 Outrage along at 50 plus with two of us onboard. Don't think you want 250 unless your planning on setting some speed records. Smile
