Do any of you have ways to tell if a hull is waterlogged without taking the floor up? ie The way it sits on the water, dis-coloration, etc. Boat in question is a 21 Outrage Banana Boat.
Roughly comparing it with pics of the same model others own as they sit in the water can be a start.
Weighing the boat can also give some clues. Of course weighing the boat on something like a truck scale will require you to weigh the trailer without the boat and also calculate the engine weight, any fuel on board, and accessories. You'll also need to know the orginal weight of the hull.
One gallon of water weighs about 8.345 pounds. If you weigh the boat and calculate the hull is about 100 pounds overweight, you can estimate about 12 gallons of water soak.
If you suspect only a couple of gallons, weighing the vessel probably isnt going to help. I've read some information about drilling very small holes and using an electronic moisture meter with probes and comparing the readings to known dry areas.

somewhere on here is a method for tapping the hull. but i dont know if the dull thud is sign of water logged foam or the correct sound.
Maybe start by tapping on an area likely to be dry such as at the bow then compare to other areas more likely to have water such as the stern?
Tapping on the hull will not tell you if the hull is waterlogged. It will only tell you that the hull is delaminated and the foam and the fiberglass have separated.
The only way to determine if the hull holds water is to weigh the hull and compare against published weights. the standard configuration of the 21 Outrage should weigh between 1600# - 1700# not counting engine weight so this includes hull, console and seats.
