Hello ! I just joined this wonderful site - been reading lots of posts. I have a 2001 used 17' Montaulk w/ 90 hp 4 stroke Merc.- would like to put in one large tank as opposed to the two 6 gal tanks - any suggestions ? also I would like to install a GPS and a trolling motor - but am totally ingorant regarding options etc. I believe that in order to get a trolling motor, I have to change the bow rail. Also, can fishing seats be installed in my boat. Any help or guidance is really appreciated. Thank You!

Chip

Welcome.

For a tank, a 26 gallon Moeller will fit under the z legs no problem and give you plenty of range for your motor.

Try amazon, they price em low. I got mine for right 180 shipped.

See this link to our OEM Parts Photos for replacement fuel tanks for the Classic Montauk.

There are basically 2 choices.
Two 12 gallon tanks which fit in the original mats,
or
One 26 gallon tank which you may need to trim the inside lips of the mats.

I put a 26 gallon under my seat .the fill and fuel line connection are both on same side of tank and allow easy access . Montauk is in the shop getting motor rebuild , When it is back I will try to remember to post tank manufacture and model # . It is alot of gas to sit on when you think about it . LOL

Chip -

The introduction of E-10 has impacted standard practices regarding fuel storage. The lifecycle of fuel in a vented fuel system is shorter compared to pure gasoline

Since you have a 4 stroke, if you install a large tank (26 gallon) consider how long it will be between refilling the tank. You may consider a 20 gallon tank if 12 is not large enough and 26 is too large.

One benefit of a portable tank is you can drain it and use the fuel in a vehicle, ATV, mower, snowblower etc.

Captaincurt, before you move your primer bulb remember that it is recomended that the primer bulb needs to be on the engine side of an external water seperator filter. If you do not have an external water seperator filter than go for it. If you do then perhaps that is why the primer buld is near the engine. I am sure there are people who have successfully installed a primer pulp behind te external filter but, I always follow the manufacturers reccomendations.

Harley,
They don't list the tank as 27 gallon anymore. They sell it as a 26 gallon...
Is that an older Tempo which is no longer in business or the Moeller which is still available?
