The three thru-hulls (two thru transom and one from bow locker) on a 1989 Montauk have brown stains "running" down the gelcoat. Is this an indication of a serious problem? I know some brass alloys contain low levels of iron. Is it just corroded thru-hulls? I have only looked at pictures and have not seen the boat first-hand.
Could very well be.
Oxidation has taken place.
A simply photo unless being a real close up will be of little help.
I would look at the area with a magnifying glass and closely inspect before giving a diagnosis.
Could be simple oxidation from the tube
Seepage from the hull through a lost of integration in your seal.
I would suggest that the seal and therefore the tube would need to be replaced.
While I may be wrong, it could be residue from the O rings. My Montauk had a brownish/black streak on the bow locker thru hull. The O rings were on their last legs.
