I posted aquestion about this a while back when i signed up. new here and havent found it again. still learning to navigate the site.
the rub rail is more of a squared off plastic "cap" it seems. would a black replacement rail work on this boat or do I need to replace it w same type rail. am not looking to make this boat beautiful but have patched all the exrerior dings and also fixed and sanded all the interior. the inside was sprayed w that old fiberglass w color flecks and would be a too much to restore completely (at least for me. redid the wood and just have to reinstall it.
so for me the rub rail replacement would be to be able to redo the bow and stern lights. was thinking that if i got battery operated, surface mount lights would just be easier. also if i did that, could I come back later and do the light wires and rub rails after motor and steering wheel and throttle box etc is installed?
If you replace that rub rail with a new style you will have to "finish" the top surface of the gunwhale as it is partially under the existing rub rail. I ran wires under the same rail you have. I removed it and routed a small channel under it to run the wires in. Check my personal page to see pics.
