I need some advice and information.
What are the advantages or disadvantages of these two types of mechanical steering systems?
Looking to replace/upgrade an old rotary system that as a tapered square shaft. New steering wheels need tapered round shafts.
Also, does the long rectanglar tube on a rack system move under the helm or just the cable inside the tube?

Thanks number9 for the reply and for the link. Very informative.
I was wondering if anyone had any first hand experience with the Teleflex Back Mount system.
I have built a taller and wider console for my 13 with a larger dashboard to mount it, but how would it handle the boat with my 25hp mercury?
Any more input would be appreciated.

Had to abandon to Rack system for my 13. I have 26 inches under the dash to gunwale and according to Teleflex I need close to 30 inches. (There was a great deal on Ebay)
Now looking back to the rotary system.

QUESTION - On a 13 with a 25hp Merc is spending the extra money for a NFB (No FeedBack) system worth the extra expense? (About $50 difference) I don't want to go less expensive if safty or effieciency is an issue.
Any input appreciated.

Yes the NFB system is worth the extra bucks. Not recommended but nice to occasionally be able to remove your hands from the wheel and much less fatigue at the end of a long day. A short video to check out.

NFB 4.2 is the way to go. Relatively inexpensive considering the importance of the steering system and I installed mine in 2 hours taking my time. I'd do it again.
