Thought some of you might be interested in how I removed my Outrage from it's trailer to barrier coat/bottom paint. I simply lowered the trailer tongue to the ground, attached the two 4x6's to the rear lifting eyes with 1/2" bolts, raised the bow back up with a bottle jack, high enough to put the weight on the 4x6's, and removed the trailer in steps, using blocks under the front of the keel. Boat is just about totally clear to work on. By the way, I put the blocks under the rear of the keel just as a precautionary measure when I'm not working on the boat. blackduckgallery.com/images/outie1.jpgoutie1.jpg

Blackduck,

Did you route out holes in the 4x6 for the D-ring to slide into ? ( Looks that way ) I am looking at doing the same, except I want to remove the bottom paint. Thanks for sharing the idea and setup.

Yes, I drilled them out on a drill press, maybe 2" deep, 3/4" bit. Squared it up with a chisel.

Great idea but I would like to add a cautionary note about using concrete blocks to support such a load. They can easily fail. As a professional firefighter, I've removed more than one corpse from under automobiles that have come down when using cement blocks to support them while being worked on.

A lot of folks have used them without problems. However the potential consequences of a failure can be dreadful.

Solid hardwood blocks work well.

I agree, but here, I feel most of the load is being supported by the 4x6's. I will change the front support to all wood, thanks for the advice, Walter.

You removed your trailer the exact same way that I did. It's a pretty simple process and can normally be done with one person.
