I am new here and was directed to the site by Whalertowne Boats in Annapolis, MD. They were more than helpful talking to them and mentioned all of the knowledge on this site.
So I bought a 1975 16 Katama thinking it was an old Montauk with a console that had been replaced. Wow, what I just learned! I like the boat and it has a lot of history that I was purchasing with it. It is currently in the shop getting the carbs worked on because it sat for a couple of years with fuel in it, before I bought it.
So now that I have it, is it the same hull as the Montauk of that era? Where could I begin looking for the forward seats that I see in photos but are missing on my boat? Overall the boat is in pretty good condition, but just showing some age.
Thanks for any information and help you can pass along to this new boat owner!
Yes, all the 16' 7" hulls are the same (smikrless) up until 1977 and then the hull changed slightly and incorporated the Smirk on the front bow.
Unfortunately the front seats are no longer available new. You would have to keep your eye on eBay, craigslist, or your local marine classifieds...
Look through the members personal pages and look at all the Katama's, and Newport's to see what other members have substituted for front seats. You might also get your re-upholstered if the wood framing is still in good shape.
Thanks! There are definitely more photos on there. The wood is missing on the forward seats so it looks like I will have to rework something to get seats up there.
