I think I have solved the trolling motor problem but need to mount downriggers. I'm like going to use less expensive hand crank ones for lake trolling for trout and kokane. Not at all sure where and how to mount at least one... I could mount one on the port side at the transom but the starboard side has a cap that covers the tunnel for the wiring and steering stuff. I can't see mounting on the rail and the gunwale is pretty narrow.
I have the Cannon hand crank model UNI-TROLL 5 on my Montauk 'Dog'. It's the best piece of fishing gear since the 'fishing pole' itself.
You can buy a two piece billet aluminum bracket that fixes on the rear of the side rail. Not sure if 'Cannon' themselves offers the piece but I bought mine the same time I bought the down rigger from West Marine. It's great! No holes drilled in the hull.................
There is an arial pic on my Personal Page that you can see the mounting on the strarboard side.................
Doug,
Thanks....at least I didn't get skunked on replies )
I did look at your page and can see that the downrigger is there but that's about all. I'll check with West Marine. I would think that, mounted on a rail with no holes, it would tend to 'rotate' on the rail though ??
I have a 2007 Montauk 150 with a Scotty 1080 Strongarm 24 downrigger. I used the Scotty rail mount in combination with their swivel mount. This installation has worked very well for me. It is rock solid and just the right size for the boat. I'll send you some pics if you would like them. I too solved the trolling motor problem!
