Paul,

Take a look some of the personal pages for the 1978 Montauk models or a few other years. That should give you an idea of placement.

I had the small decals on my 1978 Montauk.
Although you can't see much of mine in these photos.

Guts,

It looks like you have the medium, 18 inch long decals.

The earlier models used the small, 14 inch decals.

Thanks to you both, I got the 28" black decals from Majic Brush. I guess I need to look at a year model that had that size decals

The earlier 17's used the small 14 inch decals up to about 1980.

Then the 17's changed to the medium sized 18 inch decals.

None of the 17's had larger decals than 18 inch.
You might ask Janis if she would exchange the decals unless you are set on putting on the 28 inch version.

I think I may have my sizes mixed up.

Guts,
What size are your decals?

I have 28 inch on my Outrage 18'....

Paul,
I think Custom15699 has the 28 inch which are correct for after about 1980 for the 17' and larger models.
http://www.whalercentral.com/infusion...er_id=8964

I don't have any of the smaller decals to measure at this time.
Can anyone tell me what the smaller sizes are on their Montauks before 1980 ?
Or even the 13' or 15' models...

Guts,

Great...
I gave the wrong information above.
The earlier models were smaller. Not sure if 14" or 18"...

About 1980 they changed to the 28 inch long decals for the 17' models instead of the smaller ones.

These are measured from the front of the sled to the back of the sled.

I might write an article on this if I can get enough info.

1. Guts 1981 Montauk 17' with 28" decals.
8 1/2" down to bottom of sled from under the gunwale lip
13 3/4" from transom to back of sled

2. Joe Kriz 1985 Outrage 18' with 28" decals.
10" down to bottom of sled
10" from transom to back of sled

Anyone have something different?
Post it here.
Please make sure your decals have not been replaced by you or someone else in the past and possibly put them in the wrong location.

This is good news, I thank both of you for your help, I have had the decals for I while and couldn't remember, but I thought for sure I would have discussed this with Janice when ordering. Anyway, I will use your measurements, Guts, thanks again

No one else wants to take the time and measure their decals?

Length of decal?
Placement of decal?

On my 1976 15' sport the Decal's are 14" long, they came from the B/W Dealer. My decal's were replaced by me, and previous ownership is unknown.

Hint: When I work with "Pressure sensative" (self-stick) Decals, I mix 1 teaspoon of "Dawn" dish detergent liquid into 1 gallon of cool water. Then I take that mixture and put it in a spray bottle. spray the "pre-cleaned" area that you want to apply the decals to heavily with the soap mixture, spray your finger tip's and hand's heavily as well with the soap mixture, peel off the backing of the decal, spray that down with the soap mix as well, NOW apply the decal to the area that you want. If you "Goof", or get it "Crooked", it's "NOT" Fatal. You can still slide the decal to the correct position, or straighten it out. when you get it right (should only take a minute, stand way back and look),leave it alone to dry over night (Hand's off), in the morning it's perfect and dry, and you look like a real "PRO" !
