In working on my '83 Sport 13 resto, I noticed that the bow eye is pulling away from the hull, and of course is sinking into the fiberglass on the inside. My guess would be cranking the trailer winch too tight. Is this common? Is there an easy fix, or what do people do? Thanks for any input.

Same thing happened to me on my newly restored 13 footer. It was caused by using a tilt trailer that let the bow bounce up and down slightly during a 200 mile trip, Yes, it was time consuming and fairly difficult to fix. but now stronger than new. After I did fix it I fixed the trailer so it isn`t a tilt trailer any more. Any flexing of the trailer will cause a strain on the bow eye. I have lots of photo bucket pictures of the repair (on the boat) but photo bucket pics are a no go on the forum and I don`t know how to post them to the proper department for this.

Thanks for the input. Mine's a tilt trailer, too, although it isn't really needed.

Yea, if you get a chance to see Binkie's repair, it should work well and give a dressy look to the interior. This repair has been done a numerous different ways from my research. Before I saw Binkie's, I too had made this repair. What I did was bore the hole out insert a thick wall fiberglass tube and attached it inside and out. I had to reshape the outside hull or where bow eye sets. If you tape the areas off before you start the work it can be done with minimal exposure to make finishing and blending easier.

rich, you could start a Project Page. I'd like to see your repair too. My bow eye is a little on the marginal side.

The way I understand it is you submit one photo with a Title and a brief description, then Joe (or maybe Phil) posts it for you. After that you can add and delete photos and commentary to your heart's content. It's basically a free photo hosting service for WC members, but with a few limitations to keep it to a manageable size.

I've been planning to do this but I'm too darn busy trying to actually complete the work on my boat!

I sent Phil a photo with a brief description, but I have 12 more pictures. A couple of weeks ago I sent a bunch of pictures from photobucket for plexiglass work. with a narrative on how to make windshields and other projects out of Plexiglas. The whole thing got deleted. Joe says don`t use photobucket.

Hopefully pretty soon you'll notice a new link under your name on the right there that says something like "My Projects". Then you'll be able to click on that sucker and upload the other 11 pictures from your computer. You have to size them to 960 x 720 first though.

Not sure what's up with your Plexiglas stuff except that maybe you sent him links instead of the actual pictures? Who knows.

It would be nice to see that project too. I've seen your Personal Page - quality work!

MushCreek, sorry about the distraction, but if Rich gets his bow eye album posted I bet you'll get something out of it. Smile

The purpose of the new photo sections is to relieve the strain on the Admins and allow the members to take care of their own personal page, project album, or photo album.

With over 14,000 members the admins do not have time to do everyone's albums for them.

If a person has a link to photos elsewhere, you can post ONE link to your album somewhere else on the Internet like this one I have on my personal site.
