I was wondering if there is any disadvantage in unscrewing the screws holding the side and bow rails to both polish the rails and clean/wax the gelcoat? Someone told me that if you can, do the work without unscrewing. That way, screw sealing and torque (ing) issues would be avoided. I was planning to reseal the screws after cleaning, polishing and waxing.

By the way, there are no current issues with any kind of moisture problems.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance.

There is no great danger in unscrewing your rails.
