new to this forum. am restoring an old whaler ...early 80s or late 70s i think. it has white squared off rub rail not the black oversized type. trying to decide if i should replace and how to do so and which rail to use. it is spider cracked but still all there. im not trying to make this look like a collector boat. just want to use it and have it last. it has electrical wires running under it that are long passed salvageable. not opposed to bow and motor/stern mounted battery operated light styles. thinking that maybe easier than redoing the wiring. i assume the rub rail has to come off to redo wiring. i have fiberglassed and epoxied the hull inside and out. thanks for any input. will try to post some pics that may clear up my description. thanks.
Search the site. There is plenty of info about the rub rail installation as well as the wiring. My opinion redo the wiring it is easy and well worth it. There are more guys that can link you to the articles just wait a bit and the help will come. Good guys with lots of info here.

redo both the wiring and the rubrail. for the wiring, it's easier the being out after dark only to find out the battery powered light is dead, and no spare battery. It really isn't that hard to do. The rub rail, just because it will look better and function better than one that is old, cracked and brittle. Check with Sue, at Twin Cities Marine for rubrail, if you don't have a whaler dealer that is close.
