I am looking at a 1984 18' outrage rigged with a 1998 115 Evinrude V4 .2 batteries 2 separate seats and 1/2 tank fuel. I have a trailer weight of 550lb What should my total be to indicate a fairly dry hull ? Hull should be 1250 plus about 350 for engine and about 100 for 2 batteries and gas at about 100 . add trailer at 550 So should weigh about 2400 lb total.Am I missing anything or too high too low?How much over should concern me? Boat is $5500 and runs well with a recent compression check. Woodwork has been varnished and is peeling and needs new bottom paint or existing stripped.Condition average or below because of looks .

You're in the ballpark, but there are always variances. Some hulls came out of the factory heavier, some lighter...

The other thing I'd check is the static trim when she's in the water. Compare the water line to other 18's with a similar set up and see how it looks. Also, take a look at Finwhales Project Album below, he bought a heavy 18 and is doing a refoam and transom rebuild. Specifically, take note of the first pic with the boat in the water, and the next few of the top of the blue bottom paint, which looks to be accurate for the water line. Compare that to the boat you want to buy.

What do you think of price. Is it worth it? Boat looks tired but is all there and working. Things like hoses are perished Woodwork looks bad and there is no canvas. The boat is freshwater but was never covered. Bottom paint suggests it was in the water for months at a time.Motor is a 1998 and works well.

at that price as long as it doesn't sink, it's a steal
Drop it in the water and go for a ride, if she jumps on plane with the 115, then hand the owner cash and make out like a bandit.

When I weighed my outrage it came in at 1400# for the hull. I know others that have been weighted since day 1 and come in at 1600#.
I do believe the older hulls were a lot more than 1250#

Well just about the only thing you can't fix without a massive amount of effort is water in the foam. So aside from that being the case, it could really be a diamond in the rough that'll shine up nice with some effort.

We picked up our Outrage, sans trailer, in the same ballpark and I thought like Kamie did. I also believed Whaler at the time when they said the foam doesn't absorb water. Turns out it's pretty heavy, still a great boat, but there are some drawbacks to a waterlogged hull including poor fuel economy and a very low sitting transom on a boat that already has a low cut to it. Not trying to scare you, just a heads up to keep an eye out for.

I have not weighed mine yet, but it sits low in the water. I hope to check the weight this week.

As I said, go for a ride. The 115HP is in the middle of the HP range for the Outrage. Take with you the number of folks that will normally go out on the boat and see how she acts. If she is very slow to plane, or doesn't have enough zip for you then don't buy the boat unless you really plan to repower right away.
Hulls with newer outboards will sit lower than hulls with original power, outboards weigh more than the did. Also, hulls with brackets will sit lower in the stern as the engine is moved farther aft. While, I am sure there is some water in the hull, the question is does the weight of the hull cause performance to suffer so much that the boat is not useable in the manner you want. The only way to know is to take a spin.

I went back to buy and they gave me the runaround about weighing it. They wouldn,t be able to for a week or more and they had other buyers not so picky Made me suspicious so I passed it up. If interested the boat is in Canada about 50 mi east of Detroit. Will probably show up on a trader.ca search Asking is $8900 Cdn but $7500 or less Cdn will buy it .That works out to about $6000US.
