My Outrage 20 Does Not Float Level

My 1988 Outrage 20 lists to starboard. Looking at the stern and judging by the waterline the starboard side sits an inch lower. Why?

I'm afraid there might be water in the hull causing this. I just bought the boat and am new to all of this so any help would be appreciated. Is there anything I should look over like replacing seals or anything at all to ensure many more years of boating? I would appreciate any tips. Thanks guys.

Is your battery on the starboard side, in the stern? If so, that's why, most likely.

i have twin 60's so there is a battery on each side. could it be that all the water drains back down and collects on the starboard side and i just need to pull out a plug or something?

I'd take a look at the thru hulls, esp the one in the starbd sump. You could unstrap and move the batt to center just to check static trim, but I'm not sure a battery is heavy enough to account for a 1" difference...

1" really isn't that much. These boats are never perfect. When tilted, can you leave the motors turned to put their weight opposite the low side, and will this even the boat out. That sump doesn't hold much water, unless it fills, and runs back up the tunnel.

im pretty sure if i turn the motors the boat still leans, how do i clear out the sump?

and are the tunnels the water drains down connected, if they are maybe the left one is clogged so all the water runs down the right side of the boat....or do they just run straight back? Do i have to turn on the sump to get the water out or just take a drain plug out?

measured the stern at waterline today, the right side of the stern sits 6 1/4 inches below water with 18 3/4 inches above. I measured from bottom of rubrail on the outside edge of stern all the way down the corner. anyone have any idea if its sitting too low in the water? The left side sits at 19 3/4 above water and 5 1/4 inches below water. Ill post pics of how she sits in the water.

All the wiring and cables run down the right side. That along with the battery could be enough. Mine sat the same way with the battery in the back right splashwell. I now have two batteries under front console. The sump does not hold that much water. The battery is much heavier than the weight of the sump full of water. Mine sits level since the changes

If you stand behind the boat while tied up at a dock, where is the water line in relation to the splash well thru-hull drains? This assumes no one is in the boat.

If the water line is above the drains, by how much (without getting in the boat to measure).

Some photos will help.

Are both batteries the same? I am not sure the cables would be enough to put it down exactly an inch but anything is possible. The bigger question is how does she run? When you are up on plane, does the boat lean? If not, patch the holes you drilled and go boating, the summer is slipping by.

it runs fine when up on plane, the drain holes are 3-4 inches below water level. the d-rings are about an 1 1/4 inches above the waterline on right side.

I have a 1990 22' Revenge with twin 100hp 4 stroke Yamaha's. When at the dock she sits a 1/4" lower on the starboard side. 6 slips to my starboard is the same hull but with a single 200 Etec. She sits identical to mine. Figure that one out.

I have two batteries both located forward on the port side under the sliding ladder. My list is not as severe as yours. Different hull, same list to starboard, same manufacturer, I'm thinking it must be something in the original hull design that transends the two seperate hulls. Does anyone know who the marine architect was who worked for Whaler at the time these boats were designed?

The fact that your drains sit so low in the water concerns me.

it was just a guess, they may not be quite that low, does anyone have any pics of their boat in the water or with bottom paint so i can compare? Ill post some pics saturday or sunday.

If its any consolation, I have a 1980 v-20 that leans to the port side. I have two batteries on the starboard side but it still lists to port by about an inch if that. I know there is some water in the hull but beyond that I'm stumped.
