I am new to this site but have just bought a 1987 SuperSport LTD with a 2005 115hp Merc on the back. It has two portable fuel tanks (10 gallon I think) in the back storage area of the boat. I find the stern of the boat pretty heavy so am considering installing a fuel tank under the front seat of the console. Just wondering if anyone has any advice or experience with this.

Thanks

Marc

Hi Marc, Welcome...

I have SS limited as well. But with a 90 and a 28 gal tank which I try to keep close to full it is a tad heavy when full but not bad. See my pics on my page. Do you have other stuff like dual batterys? Do you have a 4 stroke 115? That could make a bit heavy..

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the reply. Where is your 28gal tank installed? In the stern storage? I was considering installing something under the from seats. The 115 is a two stroke - the boat is verrry fast. Yes - two batteries although I think that is over-kill.
Also, I noticed you have a ski bar - did you install it? If so was it a simple install? I think the kids would appreciate it - especially for wakeboarding.

Marc

There are storage compartments under my seats, the tank almost butts up against it underneath the seat back. I only use one battery. If you are comfortable with one battery you should be fine. Also a 28 gallon tank is a bit large. An 18 would do fine and lighten the load. If I ever go to a 4 stroke that is what I go to, to lighten up a bit. 9 or 10 gallons of gas is roughly 70 lbs...

I also added a fuel sensor and gauge this season, it was getting to be a pain to constantly open that rear deck.

The ski pylon was an option offered by whaler. You may be able to find one at Twin Cities Marine or have one made. It mounts to the floor thru the top of the seat back. It would have been nice ift it was about 6 inches taller. I believe Whaler used the same part on the 13, 15 and 17 SS.
