Good luck with it Kamie.
I started up our 40 hp yesterday and hope to get our 13 out soon.
We're actually looking to sell the 40 horse and buy a 25. It's my girlfriends boat (wife in Sept) and she can't appreaciate the power of the 40. It sits kind of low in the back with the 40 too.

After seeing your pictures, I might consider going with an epoxy paint. A lot less work, and most likely, a better looking finished product.

Walter, I am not a big fan of painter whalers, especially if the gelcoat is salvageable. Given all the work up to this point, I think I am on the down hill side of the interior at least. As for the better looking finished product, I disagree, if I fix the gelcoat up it should last another 30 years, paint won't last that long.

kamie, agree, gelcoat is the best, just think that with the number of holes and imperfections, that applying a uniform coating to all surfaces might be the way to go. After having just refinished a console with gelcoat, I hesitate to encourage doing large areas, the amount of sanding is just mind blowing. You can't get away from the orange peel. But I guess you are not going that route anyway. Hey, on the positive side, filling all those little holes has got to be a great distraction from the day to day highs and lows. Very interested in how she comes out, keep us posted.

The countersink and fill idea sounds like a good plan. Have you looked for a good fiberglass shop or would you shoot the whole boat yourself if you can't match the blue gel? My boat is a twin to yours, both in model and very similar condition right now. I PM'd you.

I haven't weighted the boat yet. I know there is water in the foam, I just don't know how much. I can lift the boat clear off the trailer, solo. I am guessing the water is localized to the stern section, right and left. I know because when I push on the non-skid, it bubbled. The other areas, where the seat was and the crack in the center aren't as bad because they are open. the plan is to really open them up, then flip the boat over and leave them exposed to the air when I do the bottom.

Not entirely true but a pretty good guess. The plan for that is to put new rollers on the trailer. Then this fall or spring, to take the bunks off the trailer and with the boat on the rollers only, strip off the bottom paint.
