Need some advice, I am ordering the new tank for my boat. I am thinking of have the tank made 1 1/4" shorter so I can get behind the tank to suck out any water that might get into the tank cavity. Does anyone see any problems with this thought?
Seems good to me, such a big tank you won't be loosing much capacity.
If you do not refoam the tank in and use the cradle method of resetting it you will have more than enough room around the standard tank to remove water.
PS. I got your VM last night. I never replaced the tank in my 22 Outrage as it tested fine and the boat was a 100% freshwater use. So, I am not sure I could answer your questions.

I ordered the tank today and had it made 1 1/4" shorter for good measure. I plan on putting a 3/4 PVC pipe from the bottom of the tank cavity up to the deck plate. I can connect a wet-vac to it now and then and suck out any witer that might find it's way in there. I don't plan on foaming the tank in, I will strap it in. This way the water will be able to flow to the back and can be sucked out.

A few days ago I found some water sitting on the top of my tank. I'm not sure how it got there. Probably the Beckson plates aren't completely water tight, or some water got in from the sides covers -- even though I put some Mortite weather proofing putty there.
Anyways, my tank was foamed in, and as far as I can tell, the foam doesn't absorb any water. I sponge and toweled up as much of the water as possible and left the Beckson plates off. Boat is currently under a cover and a tarp. I plan on draining the tank as much as possible for the off-season.
I recommend painting your tank with the epoxy stuff.
