My 1988 22 Outrage with the 2006 225 ETEC posted (on a very flat day, 0 wind) 54 Mph @ 5600 rpms. Normal running with a mild chop is 40 - 50. I normally cruise at 30 to 35 all day long and its very comfortable. When i run at 50 or more, it certainly seems like there is nothing in the water, and my usual boating partner gets a little nervous when we run at top speed. Grin

duf, I think 54mph will be pretty hard to beat in a Whaler. Remember, we ain`t having fun unless we`re a little skeered.

I would guess speed is relative to the size of your wallet and cajones. Grin

Yeah, i gotta admit, its a bit of a rush Grin I just came back from the Whaler get together, and did a 35 MPH run across Corpus Christi bay which was relatively flat. Was a hoot and i crossed it in about 30 mins. When i got to the intercoastal, i opened her up and was cruising at 53 for a couple of minutes. WAS A BLAST!!

Those are pretty impressive numbers Duf! I can squeeze out about 48 MPH on our 22' Outrage with the 200 HO Etec and 17 pitch MiragePlus prop.

I have a 1961 13' with a 40 hp on it and I have hit 44 mph per gps. Freshwater, 1 person, little weight, in flat calm conditions and no wind.

Don't know how fast he is moving, but it did attempt to take off. I believe he is running a Johnson 150 on an outrage 19. Photo is clickable.

I haven't played with the prop yet Dave, and i have a 14 1/2 X 19, that has another stamp on it that says 21, so i'm thinking its a repitched 19. I would think that it is to small a prop on a 225 but the RPM's are right at 5600, which i understand is what you want. Now that the wind is laying down a little, i'll be going out after i get back from a 2 week business trip, and do some speed runs on a really calm day and recheck my RPMs out without a tank full of gas. Wink

How high are you running the motor? You want the cavitation plate to be at the surface of the water when on plane.

Rich, the motor is mounted in the third hole from the top on the motor bracket. I'm pretty sure the cavitation plate is where it needs to be, but i will check my next time out in a couple of weeks. As Joe said way back when i first got the boat and swapped the motors, "Duf how fast do you want to go"? I'm sure i could mess around with the prop and get a couple more knots out of her, but realistically, its not high on my list of boat things to do as over 50 really is fast enough and cruising between 35 and 40 is 99% of my time cooking on the water.
Now, that said when i finish Raggedy up and get her sold i will be moving up to a 25 Ouutrage with Whaler Drive, and when i do i will also more then likely repower with new twin E-TECS. That ought to be interesting! Grin

Some fast #s. My numbers are on a lake so I think the GPS number should be pretty dead on...

With my new 115 Etec on my 1991 17' outrage I've managed a best of 45.1 mph so far. I'm running a 17" Viper prop and I know of a couple of others that have managed a couple more mph with a 19" Viper. Since I regularly use this particular boat to fish shallow inshore waters and often with a partner and 35 gallon live well, I'll still with the 17" prop and the tremendous planing ability I have with the setup.

Honestly, 40+ mph in my little Outrage isn't what I usually consider fun anyway but I still cant resist an occasional full throttle and fully trimmed speed run every once in a while when calm conditions present.

The newer motors on these older boats are creating some very impressive numbers. 54 mph in a 13 footer... yikes!

I can't wait to get my GPS rigged up...I want to see how fast mine will go.

75' 21' Outrage with a 200hp Black Max Merc on the back...i had her opened up once and had to throttle back down, just too much speed.

I'm getting 52 or 53 from the speedometer and GPS in a 1986 Outrage 18 with a 150 and low fuel. It's fun, but hard to control at that speed. Duf and I need to race.

5600 rpm 42mph, flat calm water, 1970 16 footer with a 1999 Merc 90hp 20 pitch Mercury lightspeed ss prop. Usually run about 20-30mph depending on conditions.

Wow, that's fast! I'm not real surprised though. I've gotten 42 knots (GPS) out of an '87 Outrage 18 with a '98 Yamaha S150 carbed 2-stroke. I forget what the RPMs were and the fuel tank was full. The prop is a Michigan Rapture I think, not sure what size (19?). The engine is mounted one hole up and the boat is bottom painted. The boat felt pretty stable to me at that speed, but it was fairly calm water and it has Seastar hydraulic steering too.
My '95 Outrage 17 has an '04 Mercury 90 4-stroke and gets 41-42 mph (GPS). The motor is mounted three holes up and running a sad looking original 17P aluminum prop. Time for a nice stainless prop for next season I think. The boat will start to chine walk at this speed if I cross some wake.

Here's one for you speed freaks. Never really did open it up.

And this one does 62mph DGPS, driven by a Merc racing tech, who said he could get another 2 mph out of her if the engines were raised another 1-1/2". Props are 21" Rev-4's, and engines are Merc 200 EFI's. I rarely take the boat over 4000 RPM, about 45 MPH.
