Hello,

Just purchased my first whaler..., 1985 18 Outrage. My outrage did not come with a swim platform. Any advice on where to get an OEM Teak swim platform or advice/reasons not to install one. Thanks...

Take a look at all the photos in the above thread.
Since the above post, I have added a 2 step telescoping ladder by Windline.
See the attached photo.

Also looking for a swim ladder. Any other options besides the ~$400 ladder by Martin Marine?

The Martin ladder is well worth the money.

1986 Outrage 20

Hey - after a season of hauling my little guy over the gunwale -- we swim a lot in maine -- I've been looking for a swim ladder/platform that i can install on the back Left of the stern/transom. The challenge seems to be that my whaler sits low in the water and trying to keep the ladder above the water line when at rest

I found this thread and Joe's advice.
I've seen the $450 Martin Marine example

is there another $50 version? photos?

thanks again!

The basic platform runs ~$260

If you need to stay at the $50 price point, there is this:

The thing is, Ray Maritn's design has tighter hoops that allow you to mount the platform higher on the transom.

I bought the Martin Marine Design for my 1988 Montauk. I'm about an hour North and drove down to get it, see his shop, and meet him. I would absolutely go to him again. First class quality work, guy, and shop!

I had the extra challenge of trying to cram a swim ladder onto my 22' Outrage's with Twin 115s already crammed transom. Martin Marine Design sent me the standard platform and it unfortunately did not allow the Twin 115s to swing completely in both directions.

I am in Canada and already paid the shipping and duties on the platform and returning it would have been a costly nightmare even though he agreed to refund my original shipping costs. So, I touched base with Raymond Martin via email and we came up with a great solution. He made me a new set of mounting brackets and shipped them up at no additional cost , I shortened the platform and it now all fits on the transom nicely.

I also wanted the platform out of the water and we changed where the platform was mounted on the brackets on the new version - he can customize it in any way you want.

In short the quality of Ray's work (his welds and fabrication are outstanding examples of quality work) and his willingness to correct the issues I was having at his own cost make choosing a Martin Marine Design's swim ladder the way to go.
